History of Zonta Club of Kaohsiung

Chartered in May 1972, Zonta Club of Kaohsiung was the 5th club in Taiwan. Located at the southern part of Taiwan and carry with the warmest harbor culture, for more than 40 years the club has been persistent in keeping Zonta spirit which is serving worldwide and advancing the status of women. Since 1975 the club has been presenting scholarships to vocational school, high school, university girl students who are remarkable in social service, skill and technology, science, arts, sports, language. 

There are always harmony and corporation among the club members. And we make it a point to encourage and support club member to serve at area level, district level. We had 3 Area Directors who were Monalisa, Hung (1986-1988) at that time she represented Zontians from Taiwan donated the board room for ZI Headquarters in Chicago; Evelyn Chang (1998-2000); Huey-Er L. Lian (2002-2004) who also serve as the District 31 Governor (2012-2014) 

Our club take special interest in international relationships. We had allied with 4 sister clubs: Club of Lake Worth, Fl., USA(1979) ;Club of Sendai 1, Japan(1992) ; Club of Kyoto 1, Japan(2004); Club of Greater Rizal II, Philippines (2005).The club has made special efforts in organization and extension, too. We are the SOM Club of Tainan(1979); Club of Kaohsiung Yuhsiuan(1994); Kaohsiung Medical University Golden Z club (2001); Kaohsiung Girls’ High School Z club(2004).

Owing to the effort of the club members, the club won the District Award in 1994 during Evelyn Chang’s presidency and in the same year Shu-cheng Lee won District Outstanding Member Award and Huey-Er L. Lian and Jane T. Chang won Area Outstanding Member Award in 2001 and 2003 respectively. In 2004, 2008 again the club won District Outstanding Club Award.

Currently the club has 40 members coming from different kinds of occupations. We have law maker, CEO, doctor, pharmacist, lawyer, accountant, rehabilitation therapist, teacher, manager, house wife, real estate broker, bank manager, all are capable of doing the service to make the community a better one. Besides the monthly meeting, we have study group to read a book every month in order to update our knowledge with the global surrounding change. Join the activities held by other Zonta clubs. And do the celebration in accordance with ZI recommendation. The communication with the international is the issue that club shall always emphasize, with a humble mind to connect the global community, learning mutually, widen our vision and think differently. 

Zonta club of Kaohsiung is a good training place for women to have leadership through good coordination and of course the mentor system should be enhance and carry out through each club is essential important . All members are appreciation for being a part of giving, sharing, learning globally. For Kaohsiung club this is only a very beginning compare with centennial of Zonta International and we are so glad to be part of it that help the women to play a decent p
